New Mamas

Wink Photography and Yoga Mama teamed up to offer a celebration of motherhood!  We opened up our studio in NE Minneapolis to seven expectant mothers for a mini-maternity session.  We had a wonderful time meeting the proud parents-to-be, photographing all the beautiful baby bumps and sharing baby stories.

Thank you to all of you that signed up, stopped by, and bared your belly.  We wish you all the best in these last couple of weeks and months!

A very special thanks to Melissa of Yoga Mama for being a part of this fun day!

Enjoy the photos!

Wild Ride

It's been a crazy couple of years. My husband and I had twin boys (and no, it doesn't run in the family), welcomed my sister and her family back to MN after living across the globe for nearly a decade, lost our home and both cars in the Minneapolis tornado, spent 6 months living in a basement while we looked for a new house, and did a complete house renovation, all while my husband and I continued to run our own businesses. Whew!

As if that weren't enough to keep our heads spinning, we are expecting our third child in mid-June. I am getting more excited everyday to meet this new little person....but at the same time, I am terrified of what a new baby will bring. Just when we got to a point that the boys are getting "easier" and more predictable, we're going to start all over again with another baby. The sleep deprivation, the round-the-clock feedings and nap cycle, the frustrations of not knowing when or what is needed... all with the added layer of having two toddlers who keep us plenty busy all on their own. I worry that I won't have enough time, enough love, enough patience to attend to the needs of each of my children. I worry that I won't be able to offer the same opportunities to this new baby as I did for the boys. I worry that I won't be able to read books to the boys before bed or keep them stimulated enough during the day while caring for a new infant. I worry that I won't be able to keep up with cooking or housework, let alone do anything for myself that will keep me sane.

However, as I sat in my backyard today with my children contained by a newly-installed fence and happily playing in the dirt, I am overjoyed and overwhelmed with how much has happened, how far we've come, and where we've ended up. Baby #3 busily draws on the inside of my belly.... a constant reminder that things are about to drastically change again. But through my worries and self-doubt, I look at my boys and breathe in the fresh air and I can't help but be excited for the next wild ride. Its the feeling you get at the top of the roller coaster when you think to yourself "maybe this wasn't such a good idea", but there you are and down you go.... and you love every second of it!

Peters Family

We've been photographing the Peters family for about 5 years now. It is amazing to watch their family grow and change.  We love their playfulness and bold color choices for their portraits.  Their sessions get increasingly more fun as the boys get to know us and become more interactive - a true testament to working with a family photographer over time. Matt and Laura - Thanks for letting us be that photographer for your family. Cameron and Lukas - Thanks for playing with us - we had a blast!

Happy Mother's Day!

This month’s Inspiration Session was actually a surprise for Mom for Mother’s Day!  We “advertised” that we were in search of a family with 2-4 children between the ages of 3-10 years old.  We really lucked out when the Vajda family volunteered!
We met in the studio at the end of April to produce a really touching, fun and thoughtful gift for Mother’s Day.
Happy Mother's Day to all the extraordinary women who call themselves "Mom," especially our own mothers who have loved, supported and encouraged us then, now and for years to come.  We love you!

Kathe & Steve

I have known Kathe since my little sister started preschool.  It was there that her and Kathe's daughter, Abby, became lifelong, best friends.  So, naturally, Kathe and her girls have been an extension of our family.

I was absolutely thrilled when I heard that Kathe and her boyfriend, Steve, were finally getting married after nine years!  And even more thrilled that they asked me to photograph their wedding!

Their wedding was beautiful.  It was simple, but elegant.  I was moved by all the meaningful personal touches throughout the day... Kathe's jewelry, her locket on her bouquet, her daughter, Erinn, playing guitar during the ceremony, the cake baked and decorated by Abby... as if weddings weren't special enough, Kathe found a way to truly make it memorable.

Kathe and Steve's love is unmistakable.  Their eyes seemed to shine with admiration for each other.  I felt so honored to be a part of their day.  I know they will treasure the captured memories for lifetimes to come!  ~sarah

Fenja

We were thrilled to get the opportunity to do graduation photos of Fenja (seriously, don't you just LOVE her name?). She is currently finishing up her junior year at St. Paul Conservatory, a public charter performing arts school located in downtown St. Paul, where she studies a multitude of disciplines and specializes in dance.

We started the session by heading down to the river for some outdoor shots and ended up back at the Landmark Center for some photos with their amazing architecture. We had a great time getting to know Fenja better and she was a wonderful model. She was even willing to dance for us a few times - how fun is that? What a talented, personable, and incredibly adorable young woman! We wish her all the best in her senior year and every success beyond graduation.
