Noah

I met baby Noah when he was only 8 days old. I actually photographed him on his due date, which happens to be my birthday. What a treat to photograph this little bundle - so sweet and soft, with that wonderful newborn smell. :) Congratulations Sabrina and Aaron on your beautiful baby boy!

How does your garden grow?

I have wanted to have a big garden to grow my own fruits and vegetables as long as I can remember. Everything smells, feels, and tastes better when it is fresh from the garden. When we moved into our new house we finally had backyard room enough for a nice sized plot and my father offered to get one set up for us. "Okay", I said, "but don't go crazy with planting because I'm not going to be able to take care of it this year (with 2.5 year old twins, a newborn, and a small business to take care of)."

Well... he went crazy. He can't help himself. He's a farm boy at heart. He loves digging in the dirt and planting seeds (not too keen on weeding though...). Anyway, he vowed to take care of everything he planted and he has, so far, made good on his promise. We have zucchini and cucumbers coming out of our ears, radishes and green onions in abundance, potatoes and tomatoes well on their way, and squash and melons coming soon.

I love this season, food-wise. Everything is so fresh and beautiful that I decided food photography would be a perfect Inspiration session for July. I really don't have a lot of experience photographing food (outside of shooting photos of tea for TeaSource) and I've been wanting some nice images of food for the walls in my kitchen, so I went for it. It was a fun, refreshing, and delicious change of pace. :)

Enjoy the season of abundance!

Month #1

Its been over a month since my little girl was born. As I expressed in an earlier post, I was pretty nervous about having a newborn while also taking care of my 2.5 year old twins, but things couldn't be going much better. Genevieve is such a sweet, easy-going girl (so far!) and the boys have embraced her into our lives extremely well. Okay.... they may have tried to feed her raisins and sunblock, but I'm sure they were really trying to "help".  :)

Anyway, when the boys were born, I vowed to do monthly "photo sessions" of them. I did so and made them each an album of their first year. It is really amazing how much babies change and grow from month to month. I am determined to do the same for Genevieve. Here are some of my favorites from Month #1. Enjoy!

In a previous life...

I am not a salesperson, which is why it seems so odd that I was a retail manager in my previous life. I sort of "fell into" a management position at TeaSource, a local loose tea importer and retailer, and ended up falling in love with the product and the people there (TeaSource is where I met Sarah, my current business partner and one of my closest friends). I learned the mechanics of the job as a part-timer in college, but really developed a passion for the camillia sinensis (the tea plant) when I started managing the St. Anthony Village store in 2005. I began "cupping" and ordering teas, teaching various tea classes, writing pamphlets on all things tea, and working with tea vendors and experts from around the world. My mom once said that I need a job that I can throw myself into and that is exactly what I found at TeaSource.

For me, hot summer weather brings memories of filling iced tea bottles for parades, fixing the ice machine, and making tea smoothies for classes full of self-proclaimed "tea geeks" such as myself. Some days, I really miss the "tea talk", the spicy-sweet smells of tea being blended, and the people that make up TeaSource. I am lucky enough to be their product photographer now, so I still get to stop in and visit my old life now and then.

For those of you who love tea and those of you who don't yet know that you love tea (high quality loose leaf tea made fresh...and correctly...can make anyone a tea convert), TeaSource is for you. If you need suggestions on the best iced teas, Sarah and I can talk about tea for hours! On second thought, you might not want to ask us anything... you may not be able to get away!

Keep cool this week!
